Style Spotlight: Technique Class
This week our style spotlight is Technique class!
These classes are not necessarily a style of dance, but rather a foundational class aiming to improve our dancing across all styles. Technique classes are a required class for all of our troupe students, however any student is welcome to join in.
Technique classes usually involve:
- Stretching and strengthening our muscles using a variety of exercises
- Performing drills such as kicks, turns, leaps, and jumps
- Improving skills to quickly pick up different combinations of turns, leaps and kicks
- Learning how to get on and off the floor with correct dance technique
- Improving musicality which aids in improving onstage performance
- Working with a partner in both conditioning exercises and in choreography
A major benefit of taking technique classes is lowering the chance of injuring ourselves. Performing dance movements with correct technique lowers our chances of injuring ourselves, because our bones and muscles will be in correct alignment, meaning there is less risk of falling and spraining joints.
In addition to this, having stronger muscles helps with overall joint stability and helps us become better dancers not only by improving our strength, but also improving the aesthetic quality of our performances helping to make movement look effortless.
