Returning to Dance: How to Get Back into Dance this Year
After a well-deserved break, it’s time to get back into the studio for 2022. We are all so excited here at Dance Factor to improve our technique, grow some great friendships and have lots of fun this year.
With a fresh start comes a chance to focus on working hard to set routines that will put us on the right track to have a great year. We can:
- Focus on preventing injuries
- Building our strength – as dancers we may focus on core, leg and glutes strength. Incorporate strength into your stretch routine as well.
- Pacing ourselves – start small and work your way up. Attempting to throw difficult movements after a long break can result in over-stretching or potentially straining muscles.
- Build a realistic routine
- Have go-to stretches and warm up movements that you can utilise before class starts. Make these a part of your routine so that you don’t even have to think about it.
- Make a simple and enjoyable routine of cool down stretches to complete before you have your post-dance shower. Having a proper cool down can help with delayed onset muscle soreness and aid in recovery.
- Listen to your body
- Don’t forget that rest should always be a part of our routines as dancers. Without rest our bodies risk overworking themselves which can result in injury and actually prevent us from being the best we can be.
Happy dancing! We are so excited to get dancing this year.
