Normalising Unsettled Children in Class

Are you a parent with a child that’s currently enrolled or new to dance classes but worrying if it’s the right fit as you feel they aren’t settling as quickly as you’d hoped?

Here at Dance Factor by Jessica Walker, we are here to help. There is no need to feel this way as it is completely normal and a part of every child’s early life development.

Why do our little ones feel this way?

#1. New Environment:

Taking your child to a new place with new people can be overwhelming at first. Studies show it can take even up to 6 weeks for a child to adapt to new surroundings! Allowing your child to experience this, create bonds with their teachers and feel comfortable with where they are is key to their development. We find that our preschool dance classes such as READY SET DANCE, READY SET BALLET, READY SET ACRO and READY SET MOVE are great pathways into future frightening endeavours such as day care, preschool, kindergarten and so forth.

#2. Age:

Children develop their cognitive, emotional and social skills at their own pace. Whether they are 2 years old or 5 years old, every child is different, so please do not stress if you are seeing other younger or older children settling faster than your own.

#3. Separation Anxiety:

Our dance classes might be the very first time your child has been separated from you. Your child may cry which is completely normal and expected. Together with their teachers’ help and your patience, you will soon see your little one experience the magical benefits of dance!

Remember, it’s ok to cry!
