How to Stay Warm at Dance this Winter
June is fast approaching, which means saying goodbye to Autumn and hello to Winter!
Whether you are happy or sad about this, we all need to think about keeping ourselves and our dancers warm to lower the risk of injuries, and ensure they are keeping up their physical activity.
Here’s some tips to for dancing in winter:
- Warm Up. It’s important to warm up to get our muscles ready to move – when coming from the cold, your muscles are contracted to keep your body warm, and they need to be loosened before beginning to dance.
- Stretch. Make sure you are stretching in your breaks or before class starts to get the blood flowing. While you are catching up with your dance mates, it can be a great idea to start stretching before class starts to get a bit of a head start
- Wear appropriate attire. Keep the muscles warm by wearing appropriate winter dance attire. Although it’s tempting to throw that big school jacket on just before you get out the door, it’s more beneficial to change into your correct dance uniform.
Don’t forget! Dance Factor offers a range of appropriate form-fitting crossovers, tights and long sleeved items that will keep you warm at the beginning of your classes. That way when class starts you’re ready to go in the correct attire.
