How to Stay Motivated Throughout the Year

Do you find at the beginning of the year you have lots of energy and motivation to reach your goals but it begins to dwindle away around the halfway mark?

At the end of the year around the fun of concert time, it’s easy to feel inspired but the hard part is putting in the work to get there.

Here are our tips for keeping up motivation throughout the year:

  1. Take time to rest your body. It’s good to stay active outside of dance, but downtime is important too. Light stretching can help with recovery and to better relax the muscles.
  2. Take a mental break. Take time to practice some mindful activities to help you destress outside of dance, like drawing, journaling, a light walk or baking.
  3. Try to keep a positive mindset. If you are beating yourself for being unmotivated, try to flip your perspective to find the good. Know that you’re not always going to feel 100% motivated- when you aren’t feeling so driven, remember the motivation will make its way back eventually.
  4. Explore and get inspired. If you are able, go to watch your favourite dancers performing whether it be through music videos, videos on social media or anything else available. You can even get inspired by appreciating those around you – your peers and teachers.
