How to Grow in Stage Confidence for Dancers

The idea of being watched while dancing can be daunting, whether it’s on stage in front of strangers or even in class in front of your peers.

But it doesn’t have to be: there are many tips and tricks that dancers use to cope with feelings of worry and anxiety about performing.

Here are three helpful hints:

  1. Practise performing in front of people you are comfortable with first. This could be a member of your family or a close friend. Showing someone other than your dance teacher your routine is a good first step, which can help prepare you for the stage.
  2. Utilise eye-contact when you perform. Meeting the eye-level of the audience will give the illusion of confidence, even if on the inside you don’t feel so confident.
  3. Ground yourself in the moment. While on stage remember you can only do your best – don’t set your expectations sky high, but instead know you should congratulate yourself for getting up there.

We love seeing our dancers hit the stage at the end of year concert and eisteddfods throughout the year for our troupe kids – we are already counting down the days until this year’s concert!
