5 Tips for New Dancers

Do you want to get started in dance? Are you wondering how to begin to develop your dance skills and technique?

The good news is that every dancer begins their journey somewhere! Keep reading for five beginner dance tips.

  1. Try lots of different styles. Take a free trial in all styles: jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, lyrical.  Try styles you don’t think you will like, you might surprise.
  2. Learn the basics first. Be patient and work your way up to the more difficult movements. Ballet is the foundation of most dance styles, so is usually a helpful place to start.
  3. Listen to feedback. One of the most important skills as a dancer is being able to apply corrections. Don’t forget that your teachers are there to help you improve.
  4. Practice at home. If you really want to improve your dance abilities practicing choreography, stretching and improving strength is key to developing technique.
  5. Have fun! Dance is about having fun just as much as it is about improving technique.

Dance Factor offers a free trial in every style. We also offer resources to assist new dancers which can be found on our website. Click the link here for more information.
