5 Reasons to take Acro Classes

Acrobatics dance is an emerging dance style that has been rapidly growing throughout the last decade.

Acro can often compliment established dance styles like jazz, contemporary and lyrical. Putting acrobatic skills in dances can give them an extra “wow” effect.

Some skills included in Acro are aerials, baranis, flips, back somersaults and handstands. Acro can have many benefits for dancers who are interested in trying it.

Here are 5 reasons to try Acro dance:

  1. Builds muscle strength. Movements such as handstands naturally increase strength particularly in the upper body and trunk area.
  2. Build flexibility and mobility. Acro can make our joints more mobile which can have a positive effect on overall health.
  3. Improves coordination. Increasing coordination will help your body be better able to control itself while executing challenging movements in day to day life.
  4. Increases confidence and self-esteem. Acro is a great way to learn new skills which can boost confidence in our abilities.
  5. Encourages consistency and dedication. Skills in Acro build on each other, so consistent practice is required to learn skill after skill which builds on each other.

Safety is of utmost importance in this style. Therefore at Dance Factor we only allow students to perform more Acrobatic skills such as baranis and aerials after they have mastered basic skills and gained enough strength and coordination to safely complete the desired skill.

Dance Factor offers Acro classes at our studio throughout the school week and on Saturday mornings. Classes are divided between beginner, intermediate, and advanced to cater for all Acro abilities – even if you have never tried Acro before!

Dance Factor is a Wollongong-based dance studio offering classes in all styles of dance. Our classes cater to ages 12 months and up and cater to all abilities.
