Diane Smedley
Over the years Diane has taught thousands to dance and some of them have now joined her to help her continue providing quality tuition to the Mackay community.
Diane delivers the best quality instruction in the Region as can be seen by her results.
Diane is the only Ballroom Dance teacher in Mackay who has trained Australian and Australasian champions.
Diane has trained Champions at Junior, Juvenile, Adult and Masters level. She has also taught thousands of social dancers of all ages to enjoy dancing since coming to Mackay in 1989. She started her dancing career in the 70’s in Canberra, training for medals and competitive dancing for many years in Gwen Wallace's Studio. Dancing the three Ballroom styles of Latin American, New Vogue and Modern (Standard), Diane competed regularly and attained medals in all three styles up to Oscar Level.
Moving to Mackay in the late 1980’s Diane continued her dancing and became a qualified teacher. Diane has worked with dancers in Mackay since then, as well as a brief stint teaching in Brisbane. Throughout her teaching career Diane has brought fun social dancing to Mackay and was the first to teach Latin American here.
Many dance competitors have learnt with Diane throughout the years and have competed with great success in state, national and international competitions.
Diane has a love of dance and believes dance is for everyone. This is why Diane ensures that not only competitive dancers are catered for but that she provides classes for those with special needs as well as beginners and intermediate dancers.
Diane’s aim is to promote the joy of dance to all, whether you’re interested in Social, Competitive or Fitness, whether you want Latin American, Ballroom or New Vogue.
Over the years Diane has built up a friendly and fun studio where you can reach whatever goals you want in dance.
Jodie Wood - Assistant
Another of the Wood clan who go way back with Diane. Jodie is relative newcomer to dance and was a star performer at the Cabaret in 2010.
She has two daughters also dancing with Diane. She is a school teacher and so is well suited to assist with the children's classes.
